The St. Jude Mission Center in Seaford Honors Diversity in Pride Month (June)

6/2/2019

For Immediate Release
June 2, 2019
Sunday, June 2, the St. Jude Mission Center at St. Michael and All Angels, Seaford, recognized the diversity of Southeast Nassau while remembering the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots by raising the rainbow flag and trans flag along with the American flag.

The St. Jude Mission Center is home of Epicene, a peer-led transgender, gender non-conforming, and non-binary support group, funded through Episcopal Ministries of Long Island and The Church of St. Jude, Wantagh. It is affiliated with The Transgender Resource Center of Long Island, Inc.

The Mission Center also houses The Mother and Child Ministry (serving babies, toddlers, children, and their parents), Heaven's Harvest Food Pantry, the Peanut Butter and Jelly Brigade, and several support groups.

The St. Jude Mission Center at St. Michael and All Angels in Seaford is the outreach center of the Church of St. Jude (Episcopal) in Wantagh, a welcoming community of faith that embraces and serves all of God’s children, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or socio-economic condition.

The center was dedicated February 26, 2017 by the Bishop of Long Island, the Rt. Rev. Lawrence C. Provenzano. And, it was recognized by The Bethpage Best of Long Island Competition as the best not-for-profit in 2018.

According to The Very Rev. Christopher D. Hofer, "We are committed to serving those in society who are considered outcasts." He added, "As followers of Jesus, we seek to love everyone as he did. Raising the Pride and Trans flag is one way to outwardly demonstrate our full acceptance and embrace of the LGBTQ community and the Island's diversity."
